Happy St Patrick's day! To celebrate, I'm looking back at an original illustration from 2018. I was inspired all those years ago to create this cauldron mech suit, piloted by a feisty leprechaun purely because I wanted to do some St Patrick's original art, but I couldn't just make it normal...
The Leprechaun covets his gold, because it is what all the Leprechaun technology runs on. It generates the right kind of energy to fuel all their machines. In this case, the gold fuels the suit and its shoulder blasters creating powerful beam lasers. The battle against all that would steel his precious gold resources and trespass upon his rainbow property happens every year. After this St Patrick's day battle is over and won, and the transgressors are run off with their tail between their legs, the Leprechaun will begin immediately preparing for the next year's battle.
Drawn in a pencil sketch/ ink wash style in Inkscape and colored in what Adobe Photoshop. I used to do a monthly pot of gold hunt on the EWG website too, and all who find it get a discount or free commission sketch or something. Good times! This year however I decided I have enough going on without adding that to my plate. Maybe next year.... Get your mechs ready!
